4. Increase your consumption of alkaline foods.
Organisms, like the nasty little monsters that cause urinary tract infections, thrive in acidic environments. So the next time you’re fighting a UTI, try increasing the amount of non-acidic, alkaline foods you eat. It’s not a difficult thing to do, and if you’re looking for natural treatments for a UTI, you probably already consume some of these foods as a part of your usual diet. Alkaline foods include fresh vegetables, nutritious oils like olive oil and coconut oil, nuts of all kinds—except peanuts, cashews and pistachios—soybeans and tofu, raisins, legumes and seeds.
Avoid as many acidic foods as possible, as these foods will contribute to creating an acidic environment within your body, thus promoting the growth of the organisms causing your infection. Dairy foods, canned tuna and sardines, brown rice, oats, chicken and whole hard-boiled eggs are all acidic foods and should be avoided as much as possible while your body is fighting the UTI.
