15 Things You Can Do Today to Feel Happier & Healthier Tomorrow

Probiotic

4.  Take probiotics every day

Probiotics are the active cultures you find in yogurt and kefir.   They help maintain a balance of beneficial bacteria in your gut which is where the lion share of your immunity comes from.   It's also essential for you and your family especially if you've taken antibiotics.  Though necessary for some infections, antibiotics can severely damage the delicate balance of bacteria in your colon by killing it off as it also eradicates your sinus infection or urinary tract infection for instance.  When your course of antibiotics is over, it's not uncommon for women to develop a vaginal yeast infection or your child to develop thrush after taking these drugs.   It is essential that you repopulate your gut with good bacteria during and after your consumption of antibiotics.  Visit your local health food store or better grocery store and look for an age-appropriate probiotic with a large number live strains of good bacteria.  Considering the usual American diet of high sugar-high carbohydrate foods, it's highly beneficial to take a probiotic every day even when you're not taking an antibiotic.  There are chewable probiotics for kids  as well as probiotics geared specifically for women.
